William Baran - Week 8 Devlog

Total Time: ~6 hours

Level Design:

This week was split between brainstorming and sketching for Level 3 and continuing development with Level 2.

Level 2 work was some room redesigns and slight tweaks. I added one more section for the brain and body to give the level a more complete feel. I felt the draft I had last week was lacking in some design and wanted to add more but was afraid of over complicating it. I tried to make the newest section easier to grasp for both players so it didn't overcomplicate the level but still increased the time it took to beat. I think I'm going to take another go at the newest section for the body as it seems to be still lacking as it doesn't really do much. But, as it is right now, I think it's in a better spot than it originally was last week. For this week, I plan to still revisit this level to adjust as needed and make the necessary changes, but I will mostly be shifting my focus to level 3 development after the final tweaks and adjustments are made.

For Level 3, Grayson and I met on Saturday to discuss and brainstorm for it. We spent a good amount of time using Discord's whiteboard activity to sketch and work on the first couple rooms of the level. We decided the level sketch he had for level 3 would be the last room in the level so we just have to work on rooms 1-3. Room 1 would be a very basic showing of how movement is affected by water. You move slower but you can travel further when jumping. The second room would showcase how gizmos affected water and showed if a gizmos was underwater it wouldn't work. The third room would be a little more complicated and would act as a test room before the final bigger room. The third room would also showcase changing the water levels in increments rather than just using the lever or button. We finished up rooms 1 and 2 and decided to take a break for 3 since we had been working pretty long on it. We will work on our rooms individually and then get back to each other on what we eventually have to share and adjust what is needed. I worked a little bit on it a couple days after the meeting but nothing truly substantial. So I plan to focus the rest of this week to finishing that room and playing around with different designs for it.
