Andrew Weisberg - Week 10/11 Devlog

(NOTE: These devlogs span from Week 10 to 11.  Sumimasen.)

Music Composition
(~6 hours for Week 10, ~4 for Week 11, 10 Hours Total)

For the last two weeks, I've been working mostly on Stomach Lagoon's music, aptly named 'Why is the Water Warm?'

Hyperventilation had some light work done on it, but in the interest of scope reduction, Grayson decided to cut the Lung Hanger level out of Spit it Out so we'd have less on our plates and be able to make our work more presentable for the AGD showcase.  I'll still be showing the bit that I worked on for its rework, but admittedly, not much was done on it because I was more focused on Stomach Lagoon's music.

Also, to reiterate, Grayson and Elisa have done an excellent job of environmental design, and gave me some good inspiration to go off of with composing the music for these levels.  Originally, they had an airplane hanger in mind for how the level will look, and they expanded it to a more industrial design, kind of like a warehouse complex.  I thought of industrial drums, so I figured I'd be able to do something more rock-centric.

Now, for Stomach Lagoon, I had some light drafts composed for it; one was very melancholic and slow-paced, the other carried bossa nova elements which Grayson wanted, so we went with the latter.  Originally, we had an 808 kit for this piece, but I ended up doing two variants.  One with the 808, and one with a 707 kit as Grayson wanted less percussion presence.

Personally, I feel like the guitar and the more cove-like segments add an ethereal air and a "hmm, how do we solve this" kind of tone to the piece, which I like a lot.

Sound Design
(~1-2 Hours Total)

With some of the sounds I picked out from SoundQ, I went into Ableton to play with them a little to get some sound effects for walking and a level complete chime.  Nothing overly complex, just some super basic transposing and audio effects.  I'm thinking for more complex sounds going forward, I should try to layer individual sounds on top of each other to get a desired result.

I wish I had more done for this section, but it is what it is.  I intend on focusing full-time into sound design throughout next week.
